FTC Extends Android Antitrust Probe

  • By Developer.com Staff

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is extending its investigation into whether Google's handling of Android breaks antitrust laws. Last week, European regulators charged Google with abusing its position in the mobile industry to force device manufacturers and carriers to favor Google apps. Some in the mobile development industry believe that their apps have been disadvantaged by Google's practices.

The report cites "people familiar with the matter," who revealed that the FTC has been meeting with at least two outside firms about the issue. Neither Google nor the FTC commented on the story.

In 2013, the FTC investigated Google's search practices, but ultimately decided not to sue the company.
