Google has removed 13 malicious apps disguised as games from the Play Store after security researcher Lukas Stefanko alerted them to the problem. However, before the apps were removed, more than 560,000 people had downloaded them, and Google had even featured the apps in the trending section of the Play Store. All 13 apps came from an Android developer named Luiz Pinto.

Malware continues to be a problem for the mobile development industry. Google said that it took down more than 700,000 malicious apps in 2017. A security vendor has said that it has seen more than 3.2 million malicious Android apps in 2018 so far.
