Cyanogen, a company that offered an alternative version of Android, has announced that it will be shutting down services by December 31. The company will stop updating its operating system at that time; however, “The open source project and source code will remain available for anyone who wants to build CyanogenMod personally,” the company said. Members of the open source community who had worked on CyanogenMod appear to be throwing their support behind a different Android alternative known as Lineage.

Cyanogen had previously said that it was “putting a bullet through Google’s head.”
