A new report from comScore offers good news for the mobile development industry. In July 2016, Americans spent 50 percent of their total digital media time with smartphone apps and another 9 percent with tablet apps. The desktop now accounts for only 32 percent of online time, meaning that between apps and the web, Americans are spending 68 percent of their digital media time using mobile devices.
The top mobile apps by unique visitors for July included Facebook, Facebook Messenger, YouTube, Google Maps, Google Search, Google Play, Gmail, Pandora Radio, Instagram and Amazon Mobile. Newcomer Pokémon Go came in at thirteenth on the list, which the report said was amazingly high for an app that had been around for such a short time.
