A new cloud computing report from Synergy Research Group shows that spending on cloud infrastructure (including IaaS, PaaS and hosted private cloud) grew 46 percent in the fourth quarter. Amazon Web Services retained its comfortable lead in market share, generating more revenue than Microsoft, IBM, Google and Alibaba combined. That is particularly impressive given that Microsoft Azure, the second largest provider, nearly doubled its revenue in the most recent quarter. That was enough to help the company expand its market share by 3 percent.

Number three IBM lost half a percent of market share, while number four Google gained 1 percent. Alibaba, now in fifth place, also expanded its market share by 1 percent.
