According to Flurry, January was likely the last month that the U.S. was the largest mobile market in the world. The end of the month saw China and the U.S. nearly tied for the number of mobile devices deployed: 222 million for the U.S. and 221 million for China. By the end of this month, the company forecasts there will be 246 million smartphones and tablets running iOS or Android in China compared to 230 million for the Americans.

And it’s unlikely that the U.S. will ever catch up again.

That change also means the mobile development market will likely also shift. Chinese consumers are much more likely to purchase Android devices than iPhones and iPads, which makes it likely that worldwide Android app downloads will continue to grow.
