Microsoft’s Azure cloud computing service has made two new announcements. First, it is dropping prices again. Prices for F Series instances of Azure Virtual Machines will drop up to 24 percent, while A1 Basic instances will see up to 61 percent cuts. In addition, the company is reducing prices for Hot Block Blob Storage and Cool Block Blob Storage by up to 31 percent and 38 percent respectively.

In addition, Microsoft launched a new Azure IP Advantage program to help enterprise customers protect their intellectual property. It will indemnify Azure customers from IP infringement claims related to their use of Azure, and it promises Azure customers a license in the event Microsoft transfers patents to a non-practicing entity (a.k.a. a “patent troll”). Select customers can also take part in a “patent pick” program, which will allow them to transfer a Microsoft patent to their own control if needed to help defend against patent infringement lawsuits.
