AWS Launches Bare Metal Instances

Before and during its annual re:Invent conference, Amazon Web Services has made several announcements of interest to developers. One of the most notable is that the cloud computing vendor will offer bare metal instances as a public preview. “Now non-virtualised workloads, workloads that need a specific hypervisor or access to specific hardware features, and workloads with restrictive, hostile licensing can take full advantage of the benefits of the AWS cloud,” said Peter DeSantis, vice president of global infrastructure at AWS. “And once these workloads are in AWS, they can take full advantage of other AWS services, including virtual private cloud.”

Other product announcements at the event included the Amplify declarative JavaScript library, GuardDuty intelligent threat detection and AppSync to enable offline use of cloud-hosted apps.
