At LinuxCon, Virgin America airlines CIO Ravi Simhambhatia delivered a keynote speech in which he said that open source not only saves money, but it’s better than proprietary software.

Most of the airline’s IT infrastructure is built with open source technology.

“We’ve had 100 percent up-time and we only have one Linux systems administrator,” Simhambhatia said. “We couldn’t do that with commercial software.”

Sean Michael Kerner from InternetNews reported from Boston.
