Google’s open source Android smartphone is blowing away the competition in terms of market share.
According to new data by comScore, Android‘s share of the US smartphone market increased 4 percent – up to 13 percent from 9 percent during the three-month period between February and May.
While the smartphone market as a whole is exploding, only Android is grabbing a bigger slice of the pie. Blackberry fell from 42.1 to 41.7 percent. Even Apple dropped 1 percentage of its market share to Google. Microsoft saw the biggest drop, losing nearly 2 percent of the smartphone market.
According to the report, 49.1 million people in the US own smartphones. That’s up 8.1 percent from a year ago.
