The first Android-based tablet computer is coming soon. Cisco’s Cius (“see us”) tablet, scheduled for release to corporate customers the third quarter of this year, can be docked in an optional phone base to connect to corporate communication systems.

There’s been a lot of chatter about a tablet based on Google’s open source Android operating system, and here’s one example.

“The Cius is dominated by a 7″ WSVGA touchscreen, weighs 1.15lbs, and appears to be much smaller than an iPad. It’s also powered by a customized Android OS, though there has been no mention of what version of Android,” reports Ars Technica‘s Chris Foresman.

The Cius will have 802.11/a/g/n for WIFI, 3G mobile data) and could support 4G at some point in the future, as well as, a 720p HD front-facing camera for video conferencing.
