Google’s newly open sourced WebM video format is now part of Firefox.

Today, Firefox developer Chris Pearce announced on his blog that nightly builds of Firefox will include WebM support starting tonight.

Google created the WebM project in May. WebM combines the VP8 video codec and the Ogg Vorbis audio codec to create an open source and patent free video format for the Web.

Google’s initial license made it impossible for Firefox to include the WebM format, but Google fixed that problem and Firefox is now rocking WebM.
