reMail Goes Open Source

Last month, Google purchased the iPhone reMail application.

Actually, Google bought the people that made reMail, and don't seem too interested in the product they built for the iPhone.

On Friday, former reMail CEO Gabor Cselle announced that the reMail source code is now available under the Apache 2.0 License.

"As someone who is passionate about mobile email, my hope is that developers interested in making email-related apps can use reMail code as a starting point," Cselle said.

"Part of the reason email apps are hard is because you have to pay the tax of figuring out how to download email via IMAP, parse MIME messages, handle attachments, and store data. reMail has already solved these problems."

reMail is available on Google Code under the project remail-iphone.
