Earth.org co-founders walked away from the open source online travel project two weeks ago, and now, the Web site has disappeared into the Internet ether.

According to Kevin May at Tnooz, “When the site’s co-founders said they were pulling out of the project two weeks ago, somewhat controversially blaming users for not telling their friends about the site and naturally increasing traffic, some believed that the community of writers and users would step in to save the project.”

The founders admitted that they made the Web site “too complex” and that they were another 12 months away from working smoothly, reported May.

But that was two weeks ago, nobody did step in to takeover and the site is dead.

May reported that some have suggested that the domain name has been sold.
