Ruckus Wireless has released its Zap wireless performance testing program to the open source community.

Zap was built by Ruckus engineers to monitor wireless behavior of real-teim IP-based video streaming applications. It lets network planners test sustained throughput of an existing wireless network and determine if it's capable of delivering 99.5 percent of the time before implementation.

"As good as Zap is, by releasing the code as an open source, we believe that the software community can incorporate it into a new commercial testing tool," Ruckus Wireless CTO and Co-founder Bill Kish said.
