The first mobile phone version of Firefox could be released before the end of the year.

According to the BBC and Jay Sullivan at Mozilla, the browser, codenamed Fennec, could be available for the Nokia N900 in a matter of days.

The open source browser will be able to synchronize with the desktop version of Firefox. So if you're browsing at work, when you leave, your phone will automatically update to include all of the tabs and windows you had open on your work computer.

"At the end of the working day you can walk away from your computer and keep on going on your phone," Sullivan told the BBC.

"It encrypts all of the information and sends it back through the cloud between your desktop and mobile."

Sullivan told the BBC that barring any "show stoppers," the new mobile browser could be available "within the year."
