Google has announced several improvements to Android that will likely be of interest to mobile development firms that build games. First, it has released the Liquid Fun 2D physics engine under an open source license. "Based on Box2D, LiquidFun features particle-based fluid simulation," explained the Google blog. "Game developers can use it for new game mechanics and add realistic physics to game play. Designers can use the library to create beautiful fluid interactive experiences."

Second, Android has a new plug-in for developers who use the Unity cross-platform game engine.

Third, the company is planning to make some changes to Google Play in February. Those changes include three new categories for games: Simulation, Role Playing and Educational.
