Amazon is now allowing developers who create skills for its Alexa voice platform to accept payments from within their voice apps. Alexa is Amazon’s voice assistant and the platform used by its Echo speakers and other devices; the company calls the apps created for Alexa “skills.” Until now, only a handful of developers were allowed to accept in-skill payments, but now Amazon is opening up that ability to all developers.

Developers can set their own prices, and Amazon pays them 70 percent of the list price. All in-skill purchases must offer a value-add for Amazon Prime members.

Currently, developers have created about 40,000 skills for Alexa.
