PROCERGS Increases Availability and Reduces Response Time of Java Applications
Companhia de Processamento de Dados do Estado do Rio Grande do Sul (PROCERGS), a large informatics firm, is responsible for several highly critical systems serving millions of residents, and processes millions of transactions daily. PROCERGS faced several challenges: They needed to migrate their mainframe applications to Java, reduce application development and maintenance costs, and ensure the availability of critical systems such as the 190 emergency phone number system.
Working with Oracle Consulting, PROCERGS migrated their mainframe applications to Oracle WebLogic Server Standard Edition. Critical applications were migrated to Oracle BEA WebLogic Server Enterprise Edition. Load balancing across distributed hardware ensured that if one server went down, another server could take over. They improved the access management system so that the IT team could remotely manage the applications, and adopted Oracle WebLogic Suite for Java application development.
As a result of these changes, PROCERGS reduced application development and maintenance costs by 30%, and reduced downtime by 70%.
