A new open source project called LibreOffice was announced today by some OpenOffice developers as a way to break away from Oracle’s control of the popular open source office suite.
Along with a new name, LibreOffice, the project is also establishing a new foundation to guide its future, reported Jeremy Kirk of IDG News Service.
“There was a feeling that Oracle regarded the community as ‘more part of the problem’ than the solution, said Charles H. Schulz, a project lead for worldwide language development for OpenOffice.org and a member of its community board,” Kirk reported.
