Win the Turing Award, Get $1 Million
If you are fortunate enough to win the A.M. Turing Award in the coming years, you'll be $1 million richer. In the past, the Turing Award paid out $250,000, but now the cash prize is about the same as for a Nobel prize, which is appropriate because the Turing is often called the Nobel prize of computer science.
Google and Intel have been funding the prize since 2007. Now Intel is backing out, and Google will fund the larger payout on its own.
Past Turing Award recipient Butler W. Lampson joked that he asked if the larger prizes will be given out retroactively to previous winners. Unfortunately for him, that won't be happening.
