ZDNet’s Mary Jo Foley reports that Microsoft has a new codename for the next versions of its operating systems: Threshold. The company plans to release updates for Windows, Windows Phone and Xbox One in the spring of 2015. While Microsoft will not be uniting all three platforms under a single operating system at that point, the three will share more than ever before.
Specifically, the Threshold apps will likely have a common app store and offer very similar developer tools. In addition, Foley’s sources say the platforms will share a set of “high value activities,” such as expression/documents, decision making/task completion, IT management and “serious fun.”
And in case you were wondering, the name Threshold comes from the original Halo game.
