A new survey conducted by Forrester Research and sponsored by Blueprint Software finds that IT departments aren’t demonstrating the business value of DevOps approaches and agile software development methodologies. Among those surveyed, only 45 percent said their organizations use a business metric to gauge the success of their agile and DevOps efforts, and 50 percent said they struggled to link the two approaches to business outcomes, such as revenue, competitiveness, profitability and new customers. Only a third even measured ROI.

Instead, organizations are primarily using metrics like speed (62 percent) and quality at speed (53 percent) to measure their agile and DevOps initiatives.

The report’s authors suggested that focusing more on business metrics instead of IT metrics could generate more support for agile and DevOps.
