Survey: Half of Developers Don't Have a CS Degree
A new survey from Stack Overflow finds that 48 percent of developers do not have a computer science degree, and 33 percent have never taken a single college-level CS course. Among those surveyed, 42 percent said they taught themselves to code.
The report also found that "for many developers, programming is a labor of love. The average developer spends more than seven hours per week coding on the side." More than two-thirds (70 percent) spend at least two hours per week on side projects, including open source projects, and 10 percent spend twenty or more hours per week programming outside their jobs.
