Super Mario Run Breaks Download Records
According to Apptopia data, users downloaded Super Mario Run from the App Store 2,850,000 times during its first 24 hours after launch. But according to App Annie, total downloads for the mobile game topped 10 million, and Sensor Tower puts the number at 5 million. No matter whose numbers you believe, the mobile development team behind the game has set a new record for first-day downloads, handily beating Pokémon Go, which had 900,000 downloads its first day.
Nintendo promoted the app heavily, which helped generate the high volume of downloads. However, about half of the people who have rated the game have given it a one-star rating. They are complaining about the $9.99 fee to access the whole game and the fact that it requires an Internet connection to play.
Experts say the app earned between $4 million and $8.3 million on its first day of availability.
