Startup Connects West African Developers with US Companies
Many American developers work on distributed teams, but your next colleague could be located in a part of the world you might not have expected: West Africa. A startup called Andela that has been backed by Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg is connecting African developers with jobs in the U.S. Andela receives more than a thousand applications every month, and it winnows that number down to the few who are the most qualified, some of whom "would have run circles around my classmates at Princeton," said Andela founder Jeremy Johnson.
He added, "One of the things that has surprised me the most is the reason companies have ended up wanting to work with us. Most people's expectation is it's a function of cost, but interestingly pretty consistently the primary driver has been the calibre of brain power and talent."
