Researchers Receive $7 Million in Grants to Protect Humanity from Artificial Intelligence
The Future of Life Institute has awarded a total of $7 million in grants to 37 research teams that are studying ways to keep artificial intelligence safe. Groups will focus on computer science, economics, law, policy and other areas that relate to AI and will consider the advantages and disadvantages of AI.
The funds for the grants game from Elon Musk and the Open Philanthropy Institute. The Future of Life Institute describes itself as "a volunteer-run research and outreach organization working to mitigate existential risks facing humanity." It is "currently focusing on potential risks from the development of human-level artificial intelligence."
