A new report from Risk Based Security says that the number of publicly reported software security vulnerabilities increased 30 percent year-over-year during the first quarter of 2017. It reported 4,387 different security bugs were revealed during the quarter, including 369 in Oracle software, 302 in Google software and 204 in Microsoft software.

“There is no such thing as software without vulnerabilities in it,” said Inga Goddijn, executive vice president of Risk Based Security. “Most software has weaknesses, and the question is whether they have been discovered and how do the companies respond and handle the vulnerabilities when they are notified.”

A related report found 1,254 data breaches that resulted in data loss during the quarter, a modest year-over-year increase.
