Research firm Evans Data has published the results of a new mobile development survey. It asked developers to quantify how many apps they build that are “truly native vs. a shell that launches in a Web browser.” Currently, native development has the lead, but if current trends continue, native and Web development will become nearly equal within two to three years.

According to Evans Data’s Ben Hanley, “Trends within these data indicate that, at some stage in the relatively near future, more developers will gravitate toward cross-platform development using web technologies than those writing natively for devices.”
