Localytics has released a new report on when people use mobile apps, and it could help mobile development firms tailor their advertising efforts. According to the research, the peak usage time for apps in general is around 8 p.m., and it drops off rapidly after that, suggesting that 8 p.m. is when most developers should wrap up their advertising efforts.

However, some categories of apps have slightly different usage patterns. For example, news, travel and weather apps see their heaviest usage between 7 and 8 a.m. Business, finance and music apps get steady usage all day long and into the evening. And surprising, a significant number of users keep checking entertainment and social networking apps even between 2 and 5 a.m.
