Citing “people familiar with the matter,” Bloomberg is reporting that Google is “investing hundreds of thousands of dollars” in virtual reality (VR) content as it prepares to launch a new VR service called Daydream. The report describes Daydream as “a hybrid store and software service” that is somewhat analogous to Android. In addition, it says that on Monday the company will begin rolling out an Android update that will support Daydream.

The sources say that Google has been working together with Hulu and some YouTube stars to create content for Daydream. The service will also likely support HBO’s streaming service and apps from the NBA and MLB. “It’s apparent they’ve spent a lot of money internally,” said Finn Staber, co-founder of TheWaveVR, a virtual-reality startup creating an app for Daydream.
