Based on information from “people familiar with the matter,” Reuters is reporting that Google is planning to re-launch a Chinese version of Google Play in 2016. Google had withdrawn from China in 2010 over concerns about the Chinese government’s requirements that it filter its content. The sources said that the new version of the app store with comply with Chinese law.

Experts warned that it may not be easy for Google Play to gain a foothold in the country as most consumers use other app stores. However, China does have a large number of Android users, which represent a valuable market for the mobile development industry.

Google didn’t not respond to a request for comments on the story.
