Several bloggers, including Paul Thurrott, are leaking screenshots of the forthcoming update to Windows 8.1 that show more convergence between the desktop and “Metro” apps. Specifically, they reveal that users will be able to pin Metro apps to the desktop taskbar and that Metro apps will soon include a “close” button that will make it easier to shut down the apps.
Essentially, Microsoft is blurring the lines between the traditional desktop and the “modern” desktop in Windows 8. That should make it easier for people to use the modern apps, which could be good for developers.
