At its annual user conference, Red Hat unveiled OpenShift.io, a new software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform for developing cloud-native container applications. According to Matt Hicks, vice president of engineering at Red Hat, OpenShift.io is based on the open source Eclipse Che online integrated development environment (IDE) project. Red Hat already had a separate but related service called OpenShift Online, which provides tools for operations personnel to manage containerized applications in production.

At the same event, Red Hat also announced a new Container Health Index service, OpenShift Application Runtimes and RedHat Gluster Storage with OpenShift Container Platform on Amazon Web Services.
