Raspberry Pi Gets an App Store

Raspberry Pi, the credit card-sized computer that plugs into a keyboard and a TV, now has its very own app store. The foundation behind the device has announced the opening of the Pi Store. "At launch, we have 23 free titles in the store, ranging from utilities like LibreOffice and [VoIP application] Asterisk to classic games like Freeciv and OpenTTD and Raspberry Pi exclusive Iridium Rising," the announcement stated. "We also have one piece of commercial content: the excellent Storm in a Teacup from Cobra Mobile."

The store will also offer tutorials, and it currently features a set of lessons called "Raspberry Invaders," which teaches would-be developers to write a Space Invaders-type game in Python.

Developers are invited to submit apps and tutorials of their own. Both free and paid apps are accepted; developers can also put out a virtual "tip jar" to accept contributions.
