Oracle has released Java Development Kit 8, Update 40 (JDK 8u40), which brings several performance, scalability and administration improvements to the platform. Key improvements include the following:

  • An improved G1 garbage collector
  • Dynamic enablement of Java Flight Recorder (JFR)
  • JMC 5.5
  • A self-contained application packager
  • A new time zone date updater
  • Nashorn support
  • Improved memory tracking scalability
  • Better reaction to memory pressure
  • Improvements to the JavaFX stack
