Open Source Android Closing Gap on Apple's iOS
Google's open source Android operating system is passing BlackBerry and closing in on Apple's iOS as the most popular smartphone OS.
According to recent Nielsen data, Android has 25.8 percent of adult smartphone users and Apple is at 28.6 percent. Both Apple and Android are gaining market share, with Android gaining more quickly, and BlackBerry continues its freefall.
Phandroid's Kevin Krause said, "Depending on which report and how you read it, Android has already begun to overtake the iPhone as the leader in smartphone market share."
