Nina Promises Voice Authentication for iOS Apps

Voice technology vendor Nuance has unveiled a new platform that could make it easier for developers to incorporate voice controls and voice authentication into their mobile apps. Called Nina, the new platform includes a software development kit (SDK) and a set of APIs for a pre-built voice assistant that can bring Siri-like capabilities to iOS apps. However, Nina goes one step farther than Siri, adding voice-ID biometric capabilities that allows users to authenticate themselves by speaking.

Nuance is currently promoting the technology to the mobile development industry for use in financial, travel, insurance, retail and government apps. One early customer is USAA, a firm that provides financial services to military service members and veterans.
