At Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC), Piper Jaffray analysts Gene Munster and Douglas J. Clinton surveyed 100 mobile development pros. They found that 55 percent also developed for Android, an increase from 47 percent in 2011. However, a huge majority–84 percent–of those who develop for both platforms said that iOS offered the best ease of development; only 5 percent said the same about Android. In addition, Munster and Clinton found that 64 percent of the multi-platform developers believed that iOS offered better revenue potential.

“The importance of a strong developer base is crucial to the success of a mobile operating system, and therefore, the success of a phone or tablet as well,” Munster and Clinton wrote. “We believe that Apple’s loyal developer base will continue to develop cutting-edge apps for iOS that will draw in new customers, helping to fuel continued growth in iOS device sales.”
