As consumers become more accustomed to the mobile app store model, that’s beginning to change their expectations for desktop software. Tom Huntington, vice president of marketing at SweetLabs, which has created an app store for Windows and HTML5 apps says, “Ease of use for applications hasn’t been on the desktop, but consumers are very used to it.”

Scott Schwarzhoff of Appcelerator says that his company has noticed more developers using the company’s tools to create desktop apps that seem like mobile apps. “These desktop apps are smaller in size and the method of distribution has been changed. Apps are becoming increasingly more cloud-connected,” he said.
