Microsoft Open Sources Pieces of Bing

Over the past few days, Microsoft has begun open sourcing some code related to its Bing search engine. More specifically, it has released some parts of the BitFunnel full-text search system. One of those newly released projects is a just-in-time compiler called NativeJIT.

InfoWorld’s Serdar Yegulalp says NativeJIT is the “most interesting” of the BitFunnel projects and notes that it “takes expressions that use C data structures and transforms them into highly optimized assembly code.” While NativeJIT is still in the early stages of development, it shows promise.
