Microsoft Ends Some Windows 7 Sales

Microsoft is no longer providing manufacturers like Dell and HP with Windows 7 Basic, Premium and Ultimate licenses for the new PCs they are selling. As a result, home users who want to buy a Windows 7 PC need to do so now before the existing stock runs out.

However, the company does plan to continue selling Windows 7 Professional licenses, intended for business users, for at least another year, and it will continue support for the OS until at least January 2015.

Meanwhile, NetApplications has released its latest figures on OS market share. Windows 7 dominates with 53 percent of the desktop market. Windows XP, which is more than a decade old and no longer supported by Microsoft, still has 17.18 percent of users, while Windows 8 and 8.1 together have 16.8 percent.
