Microsoft still hasn't announced a release date for its forthcoming Windows 10 operating system, but it has revealed some more details about how it plans to package the operating system. It will come in the following versions:

  • Windows 10 Home is for home PCs, tablets, and 2-in-1s. It will be installed on new PCs and available as an upgrade from previous versions of Windows.
  • Windows 10 Pro will be a slightly more expensive option for business users. It will be available on new PCs and tablets and as an upgrade.
  • Windows 10 Enterprise will only be available as an upgrade for those who already have a Pro license. It will not be available on new PCs.
  • Windows 10 Mobile is the only version of Windows 10 for smartphones, and it will also be available on tablets. Users who have a Windows 8.1 device will be able to upgrade to Windows 10 Mobile for free.
  • Windows 10 Mobile Enterprise is available as an upgrade from Windows 10 Mobile for volume licensing customers.
  • Windows 10 Education will be available to educational institutions with volume licensing as an upgrade from Windows 10 Home or Windows 10 Pro.
