Is Client-Side Java on Its Way Out?
Java remains a popular choice for server-side projects, but recent developments could have coders looking to other languages for their Web applications. This week, Mozilla began blocking some versions of Java from its Firefox browser because of security vulnerabilities. And Microsoft has already announced that it won't support any plug-ins, including Java, in the Windows 8 Metro version of Internet Explorer 10.
Still the death of client-side Java could be a long way off. According to Oracle, 850 million PCs currently have Java installed, and this week the company hired two new people to promote JavaFX among developers.
