IBM and BMW are partnering together on a new project that will store and analyze data from the BMW CarData platform on IBM’s BlueMix cloud development service. Drivers will have the option of making their data available to third-party applications, such as those created by insurance companies or auto repair shops. An article in eWeek explains, “For example, the data may be used to let auto shops know when parts are about to fail and when repairs need to be done.”
IBM already had a similar deal in place with GM.
Technavio forecasts that the connected car market could be worth $8.47 billion by 2021.
