It's no secret that Android is the most popular smartphone platform in most emerging markets, and not surprisingly, Android users are also much less likely to pay for apps than iOS users. However, that could change now that Google has reduced the minimum app price requirements in 17 countries, including Brazil, Indonesia, Mexico, South Africa, Malaysia, Russia, Turkey and the Philippines. On average the new lowest app price in these areas is about $0.26, or about a quarter of the minimum price in the US and Europe.

"Every market has its own unique challenges and opportunities," said an Android developer blog post. "Purchasing behavior, in particular, varies significantly between markets. So to provide developers with more flexibility, we've worked to adapt Google Play pricing options to better suit local consumers and make content more accessible."
