Google has begun rolling out the third developer preview for Android O, including the final versions of the APIs for the OS and updates to the Android Studio IDE. “Now that the APIs are final, you can publish APK updates compiling with, and optionally targeting, API 26 to your alpha, beta, or even production channels in Google Play,” blogged Dave Burke, VP of engineering for Google. “Publishing your O-targeted app during the preview lets you test compatibility on existing devices and push updates to devices running API 26 — such as users who are enrolled in the Android Beta program.”

Google plans to release the final version of Android O, the latest update to its mobile operating system, later this summer. It anticipates one more preview version before the final release, and it is encouraging mobile development firms to make sure their apps are compatible with the new APIs.
