Google has announced that it selected 1,307 students for its tenth annual Summer of Code program. “It was very tough for the 190 mentoring organizations to choose from the huge number of applications we received—6,313 proposals from 4,420 students—and we want to thank everyone who applied,” said Google’s Carol Smith.

Summer of Code pairs students with open source projects and pays the participants a stipend for their work—$5,500 for 2014. The list of this year’s mentoring organizations reads like a Who’s Who in Open Source and includes the Apache Software Foundation, Blender Foundation, The Eclipse Foundation, Wikimedia, GNU Project, Drupal, Debian Project, Copyleft Games, FreeBSD, Git, GNOME, JBoss Community, Joomla!, KDE, Mono Project, Mozilla, The Linux Foundation, The OpenStack Foundation, openSUSE, Python Software Foundation, Ruby on Rails, The Fedora Project, The Perl Foundation and many others.

In celebration of the ten-year anniversary of the program, Google is also holding a reunion on its campus for all past participants.
