Google Announces Date, Venue for I/O 2016
Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced on Twitter that this year's I/O developer conference will be held May 18 to 20. In recent years, the event has been held at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, but this year it will be held at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, Google's hometown. (Interesting fact: As TechCrunch notes, Google Maps lists the outdoor venue as "permanently closed.")
On Google+, Pichai wrote, "We'll have 3 full days together to dive deep into developer content, code labs, and more. If you can't make it in person, you can still join us via I/O Live and through an I/O Extended event in your local community. Stay tuned to #io16 and +GoogleDevelopers in the coming weeks for more details."
The mobile development industry will be watching to see if the firm unveils a new version of Android. The event could also feature sessions on Project Tango, Google Cars, Android Wear, Chrome OS, Project ARA, Glass and other Google initiatives.
