A new open source version control system called Gitless offers a simplified version of Git. “Many people complain that Git is hard to use,” says the project’s website. “We think the problem lies deeper than the user interface, in the concepts underlying Git. Gitless is an experiment to see what happens if you put a simple veneer on an app that changes the underlying concepts.”

Gitless actually runs on top of Git, but its controls are said to be easier to use. In addition, developers say its handling of branching is more flexible.

The project is currently a beta release.
